District 5500 Southern AZ  Installs a New Governor
An enthusiastic audience of more than 170 attended the Installation of our 2017-2018 District Governor, Joe Hentges. On June 25.  The festivities began with a review of the past year by DG Sheryl Christenson.  Sheryl was presented with a “Home Club” banner in appreciation for her year of service.
Ray Naylor presented the promotional video for the October 13-15 District Conference.  The audience enjoyed the Star Wars theme of the video with a special appearance by Harrison Ford Hentges.
THE GOVERNOR’S CHALLENGE GRANT
Our District Governor has issued a challenge for all District clubs that has the potential to have a major positive impact on the quality of education in Southern Arizona and benefit children and families across our District.  We know from major research studies that for every $1 spent on Early Childhood Development, the community receives a $16 return in reduced poverty, school dropout reduction and community economic development.  The Challenge has 2 components:
District 5500 Goals for 2017-18

Referring to them as our organizational GPS, District Governor Joe Hentges shared his goals for the coming year with attendees at his Installation.  There are 5 goals plus a “Governor’s Challenge Project.” Achieving these goals will fulfill RI President Ian Riseley’s theme:  Making a Difference.

Raise $ For Your Rotary Club -Tucson Classics Car Show
All clubs are invited to sell tickets for the Rotary Club of Tucson’s annual car show, which raises money for charities targeting early childhood literacy and job training. Tickets, an easy sell at $5 each, include entry to the Oct. 21 show at the Gregory School and a chance to win a 2008 C-6 Corvette convertible or $15,000, and four other substantial prizes. Clubs keep half of their sales, making it a winning opportunity. This year the Tucson Club is teaming up with Sunrise Rotary’s Road Rally, Oct. 22, to enhance both clubs’ visibility.
