Corazon - International Opportunity

October 26, 2024

Thank you to RC Sierra Vista for supporting The Corazon Project with a $2000 financial commitment and members. You will be joining RC SaddleBrooke and RC Tucson in Rotary Year 2024-2025 in a Turn Key International Project called Corazon - Build a House In A Day. This is a perfect opportunity to participate in a One Day international project with other Clubs. All it takes is a small commitment of cash and/or some labor and it's all organized by someone else! The Rotary Club of Saddlebrooke Board of Directors has approved its participation in a construction project to build a home with Corazon, Inc. In a single day, volunteers led by qualified Corazon supervisors, construct a new home for a family in need in Tecate, Mexico, a border town approximately 25 miles east of Tijuana. Participation by 3 or more Rotary Clubs from District 5500 is sought.  Total project cost of $15,000 will be divided among participating Clubs.

The proposed project is consistent with two of Rotary International's Areas of Focus - Community and Economic Development and Promoting Peace, Goodwill and Understanding.

SaddleBrooke Rotary has paid a $1000 deposit, RC Tucson and Sierra Vista have pledged financial support and the date of October 26, 2024 has been secured. We are getting closer to reaching out goal of $15,500 and 30-50 volunteers of all skill levels.

Corazon is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization out of Orange County, CA that provides a variety of services to the people of Northern Baja. While they are best known for coordinating the building of houses in one day, they also provide many other services such as scholarships, job training, and soccer clinics.

Corazon works with US service clubs, churches, schools, employers and families. The organization has extensively partnered with Rotary Clubs in its home building program.

Corazon works with volunteers in Tijuana and Tecate.  Local residents volunteer hundreds of hours in their community to qualify to get on the list for a house. Corazon coordinates obtaining the land and materials and determines who qualifies to get a home. Corazon will provide 2-3 lead builders”who are experienced volunteers. They lead the construction project.

More information about Corazon can be found on their website – Corazon.org, and a full description of a typical home build project may be seen.

This is a perfect opportunity for Presidents-Elect to secure an international project in their year. If you are interested, contact Johnoszust@outlook.com or Danielbwatson@aol.com
