Create Hope for Maui

A Special Message from District Governor Don

All of us have seen the awful destruction of the disastrous fires in Maui. Many Rotarians of District 5000 (Hawaii) are directly impacted. There are nine Rotary clubs on Maui and it has been reported that the homes of two Club Presidents have been destroyed. Many of you have already reached out and asked how we can help.

Early in a disaster, often the most effective way to help is a contribution of cash to a trustworthy and reliable organization. The District 5000 Foundation has established a Maui Relief Fund. Below I have shared an appeal that District Governor Mark Merriam sent to all the Rotary members in District 5000. It includes a donation link to make contributions to the Maui Relief Fund. If you wish, this is an opportunity to help our fellow Rotary members in Maui and their neighbors. Thank you.

Prof. Mazin Qumsiyeh of Palestine Will Speak Aug. 29 & 30

Professor Mazin Qumsiyeh, President of the Rotary Club of Bethlehem, Palestine, and Founder/Director of the Palestinian Institute for Biodiversity and Sustainability at Bethlehem University, is being hosted by Tucson Verde and Sierra Vista Rotary clubs for two presentations. This is a rare opportunity for Tucson and southeastern regional club members to learn firsthand about the struggle of Palestinians and Israelis to arrive at a status of peaceful co-existence in the Holy Land, and to sponsor Global or District grants to aid Palestinian refugees and environmental projects in the Holy Land.

How Are You, Really?

RI President Gordon McInally is encouraging Rotary members to create a 'culture of care' by making mental health a priority. Our District Governor Don is now asking for volunteers to create our own District 5500 Mental Health Initiatives Action Group. Get on board!

Rotary Leadership Academy - Sign Up Soon!

Nominations are now being accepted for 2023-2024 Arizona Rotary Leadership Academy. If you'd like to learn more about Rotary and explore a leadership role at any level, this course is for you. You will enjoy a great learning experience with fellow Rotarians from all over Arizona.

RYLA Registration Now Open

The Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) is a 4-day, 3-night leadership workshop for ages 14-18 in grades 9-12. These students come together from communities across District 5500 and are joined by Rotary Exchange students from other countries for a leadership camp experience in Prescott, Arizona. Each delegate is sponsored by a local Rotary Club.
