Weekly Updates for District 5500 Rotarians
August 23, 2022

DGE Don Jorgensen Receives Special Recognition (DG Anita McDonald, anitamcd@rotaryd5500.org)

I’d like to share the awesome news that DGE Don Jorgensen received an award from President Joe Biden for his volunteer work with ShelterBox Disaster Relief. We don’t usually place individual recognitions in The Glance, but I feel this is an exception because of the $75K plus that District 5500 clubs donated to ShelterBox in the past 12 months and all of the funds it has provided in the past.  The award recognizes the value ShelterBox brings to those in need, and they could not do it without your support and the support of others. We are fortunate to have Don Jorgensen as a Rotarian and ShelterBox volunteer in our District.

Does your Club know of youth ages 14 to 18 in grades 9-12 who are interested in expanding their leadership abilities. RYLA might be the program for them!  Young adults selected to attend RYLA will participate in programs designed to build, strengthen, and exercise leadership skills, self-confidence, and character.

To learn more about, or nominate a deserving young adult for the District 5500 RYLA program to be held January 13-16, 2023 at Chapel Rock in Prescott, AZ please go to RYLA | Rotary District 5500 (rotaryd5500.org)

A Permanent Legacy in Rotary (Linda Stratton, lindastrat@gmail.com)
We’ve all seen medical centers, university buildings, and hospitals named after a major benefactor.  The benefactor probably made a very large gift.  In Rotary, for a minimum gift of $25,000 to the Rotary Foundation Endowment, you can have a legacy fund named after you!  For larger donations, you may be able to direct the funds to specific programs or regions.  Foundation staff are always happy to work with you to establish a legacy fund in your name or the name of your family.
