8th Grade Honors Recognition Program and Scholarships

Casas Adobes Rotary’s signature program is its 8th Grade Honors and Legacy for Learning project.
Each year Casas Adobes Rotarians visit 17 schools to speak with 8th Graders about Rotary and the 8th Grade Honors Program.
During the last 33 years, Casas Adobes Rotary has recognized more than 4600 8th Graders for their academic achievement, character, leadership, and civic engagement and has awarded more than $600,000 in scholarships.
Schools' teachers and administrators select up to five percent of the students in each 8th Grade.

Casas Adobes then honors those students at a morning breakfast at the University of Arizona.  More than 500 students, parents, teachers, and administrators attended this year’s event on Wednesday, May 3, 2023.

Paul Cicala, Sports Anchor for DVOA News 4 Tucson, was the keynote speaker.
The Club honored each of the one hundred and fifty-seven students with a certificate.

Their names will be on a plaque that is displayed in their schools.

If an 8th Grader remains in a high school in the Flowing Wells, Marana, Catalina Foothills or Amphitheater School Districts, that Senior will be  eligible for one of Casas Adobes’  scholarships.
In the spring, the Casas Adobes Rotary holds its annual fundraiser Legacy for Learning.  All proceeds support the 8th Grade Honors Program and the scholarships for high school seniors.
For 2023, Casas Adobes awarded $41,000 in Scholarships.

On May 26th, 2023, the Tucson Sunset Rotary Club rolled up its sleeves to lend a hand to the Diaper Bank of AZ.  The group assembled 192 packages of feminine hygiene products in 2 1/2 hours.  These packages will be distributed across Arizona's communities in need that includes low-income women, homeless women shelters, and schools, and more. The Diaper Bank is always in need of volunteers.

https://diaperbank.org/   (1 in 5 low-income women report missing work, school, or similar events due to lack of access to period supplies.
For Every $1 dollar donated, the Diaper Bank can distribute $3 worth of supplies in AZ communities!)

Using Yarn to Wrap the World in Love!

Sewing for Living participants open a box of yarn from Tucson Sunrise

"Thanks you, people will eat and school will become more affordable. I know it’s hard to imagine that yarn from Tucson ties the world together, but it does. Sewing for Living’s finished products end up in various parts of Indonesia; Hobart, Tasmania; Milwaukee, WI, Puerto Peñasco, Mexico; and Cologne, Germany.
Thanks for proving that Rotarians are “people of action” who enact sustainable change."
Thank you again and again!
